Knocking me out with those American thighs

While my given name is Brandy, I have recently come to the realization that I am in fact, Chandler Bing.

Writer, reader, animal lover. I've been known to enjoy gifs. And fandom. And books. Supernatural is kind of eating my life right now. But I talk about serious stuff sometimes too.

Also, I like cake.

I know that you’ve all been waiting for it, so here it is! The post is actually a link back to my fanfic-LJ. It includes all ten chapters on their first draft, as well as a PDF of the whole story as one file; it’s been edited, as well as extended a bit. The post also includes the lovely piece of fanart that Adria drew.

Return to Me, Master Post

I can’t thank everyone enough for their wonderful comments on the story, and encouraging me to finish it. Thanks so much!

Chapter Ten

The sun shines bright today, not a cloud in the sky. Dean sits in a suit that he hates, waiting for the owner of the zoo to finish his speech and introducing him, as well as the rest of the habitat. Dean looks out into the crowd of people here for the dedication. The rich donors, the conservationists. The whole crew from the restaurant, Adam and Anna and their kids, and Cas in the front, holding Ben in his lap. Ben keeps waving and blowing kisses and Dean waves back with a grin.

“I’m sure you guys are tired of hearing me talk,” says the director and people laugh. “Well he’s the man of the hour, Dean Winchester.”

There’s more clapping and the guys cheer for him and Ben waves so wildly that Dean thinks his hand will pop off. His gut churns having to stand up there. Sweat pools down his back at the heat of the sun. Cas helped him with the speech notes. He had stayed up almost all night trying to write something perfect. Something Lisa would have been proud of.

At the microphone, he clears his throat. “First of all, I couldn’t have done this without my crew.” More clapping. “And my brother, Sam, head vetenarian here.” Sam sits in the rows of chairs on stage. He stands and gives a little wave.

And Ben almost jumps out of Cas’ arms and yells “YAY TAM!” As loud as he can. And there’s laughing and Sam waves back.

“That’s my son,” Dean apologizes into the mic with a grin. “And of course, this wouldn’t be here without my late wife, Lisa.” He starts to get a little choked up. “Uh, she worked with Sidney for years, taught him sign language and she wanted this for him and his family. And she had such dedication and warmth and kindness…” He stops for a second to breathe. Just breathe, it’ll be okay,  he hears her saying, hears Cas say it too. “You know, she loved helping others, animals and people. So, I am proud to open this habitat in the name of Lisa Braeden Winchester.”

As people clap and cheer, Sam unlocks the inside of the habitat and Sidney comes out, walking around the fresh grass, staring out at the crowd. He climbs onto one of the trees and stares out. He loves the attention, always has.

Dean looks back into the audience at Cas smiling back at him. Ben wiggles free at least and climbs onto the stage. Dean pulls up his son and holds him close, kisses him on the cheek.

“Mam,” Ben says.

“Yeah,” Dean says back. “This is for Mommy.”

Just so you guys know, you’ve given me the biggest ego boost today and currently, I am humbled, but also feel like I’m awesome. And then there’s the fear of ‘omg what will they do when it’s done?’

Return to Me (9/10)

Adult.

Castiel sat at his easel on the balcony of his apartment, a tiny, two room space given to him by one of Bobby’s relatives for the next three months. He loved it dearly, having grown used to cramped spaces from the years in the hospital. The bathroom was tiny, barely enough room for the sink (wedged behind the door), the toilet, and the shower, stall size, with the clear curtain, the tiny window above the sink.

The bedroom was just the bed, cot-sized, a chest of drawers and a mirror that he stuck post-cards in, photographs all around the diameter. A small closet where he stored his paints and canvases, his easel. Then the living room, not much bigger than the bedroom, only separated by a very thin plaster wall. He had a kitchenette with a hot-plate and a sink, a love seat and a stand with a television. It was enough space to move around in, to live. He left the windows open all the time and wanted to bottle the scent and feel of the breeze that moved from the balcony out to the window in the bedroom.

Ellen called three times, each time asking him how he was, if he was feeling sick. He felt perfect. But no word on Dean. Jo sent letters, she asked about his love-life, bragged about hers, in fun of course. Went on about some girl named Bela, a guy named John. Anna called twice, each time with screaming kids in the background. But she told him how much she missed him, and how the kids asked about him all the time.

The sun setting made his heart ache as he painted it, but in the good way. He strokes in bright oranges and reds, making the water deep blue, with a shade of green he spent about thirty minutes mixing.

Down in the street kids kick a red ball back and forth, a mother with a new born baby pushes the stroller. They look up to Castiel on the second floor and wave. He waved back and the tinest girl pushes her body against the bother and blushes. She reminded him of Ben, the shy smile, the clinging.

Italy suited him very well. For the first time in years, he was getting a tan, he wore short-sleeved shirts with v-necks. Board shorts. He walked along the beach, he jogged in the mornings, rode his bike around town. Some of the cafe owners were becoming familiar with him, some of the waiters.

He told his life story to one of them while he sat and painted while he ate. Including the heart. There was much to say, just a pat on his back and a free dessert.

The sun finally set and Cas packed it up, put the new sunset against the closed balcony door. Dinner and then some TV, Ellen called again. “Are you sure you’re okay honey? I mean, I can come.”

“I’m fine, Mom,” he promised. He was used to being alone, secluded.

“Okay,” she sighed. “Okay. I miss you.”

“Miss you too.”

He went to bed alone, stretched out, a thin sheet over his body. Though he never had it, he missed the carved shape of Dean against him in bed. He dreamed about it, sharing the same space, that strong hand on his hip, those lips pressed on a shoulder blade. He shuddered with the breeze and closed his eyes, listening to the falling sound of the ocean, feeling the warm beat in his chest.

“It’s okay, honey, Cas, it’ll be okay.”

“How is it going to be okay?” he snapped. He sniffled and bunched up a tissue; he’d done his best to not cry, but each pounding of his heart, no not his heart, HER heart, ripped through him. By the time he arrived on Anna’s door step at ten at night, the tears had reddened his eyes, his voice had become a lodged lump in his throat.

“I…I can’t be with him.”

“Sure you can, he likes you! He…you just have to tell him.”

He chuckled and looked up, ripping the tissue in his hand. “Yeah, how do I tell him? What do I say?”

She pressed her hands together and pursed her lips. “You just…you just say it.” With a look of determination on her face, she explained. “You say, ‘Dean. Dean I.’ Well Cas, you’re an artist, you’ll think of something.”

Castiel leaned forward and pressed his palms to his face, against his eyes. He heard the blood rushing in his ears, felt his scar twisting and throbbing.

The door opened and Adam entered with the kids, three around his feet and Laurie in his arms. Cas looked up, red-eyed. “What’s going on?” Adam asked. “Oh God, who died?”

Cas shook his head; Anna rubbed her hands over his back. She was warm and small. “It’s Dean,” she said.

“He do something?”

“No. No, it’s-“

“His wife,” Castiel finished for Anna. But his voice cracked, like he was a goddamn teenager. Thirty-fucking-years-old and he sat there, blubbering like a little girl.

“He’s still married? I knew it, I knew that guy was trouble Cas. You aren’t that successful without being skeevy.”

“Adam,” Anna said.

“No. You know what Cas? I’m gonna kick his ass right now.”

“Adam.” She stood and walked to her husband. Cas had no more words.

“He’s a dead man. I’ll make it look like an accident.” The kids clamored and Anna kept trying to interrupt him. “Cas, I swear to God-“

“Cas has Dean’s dead wife’s heart!” She yelled and then clamped her hands over her mouth. The kids stopped talking.

Adam looked from Anna to Cas, then back to Anna. “So…he’s not married?” she shook her head. “He’s not…he’s not playin’ Cas on the side?”

She exhaled and whispered, “No.” While shaking her head.

He shifted Laurie on his hip, then put a hand on Connor’s head. “Okay. Uh, kids, who wants ice cream?” He led them into the kitchen.

Anna turned around, one hand still on her mouth, the other playing with a gem charm on her necklace. A gift from Adam when Connor had been born. Almost ten years now. She swallowed and cleared her throat. “See? That was simple.”

Castiel flopped back into the couch.

Chapter Seven

This chapter is adult.

“A guy?” Sam asked.

“Yeah.” Dean sipped on his beer. They sat across from each other in Sam’s dining area; not really a dining room really. A squared off space with a small table and two chairs placed near the bay window. Jess sat in the living room, pretending that she wasn’t listening, but Dean saw her pen stop every now and then, her whole body go rigid as Dean spoke.

“You’re dating a guy.”

“Sort of.” Dean shifted in his chair and Sam just stared at his plate. “Come on,

Sammy, say what you’re thinkin’.” God knows Dean normally couldn’t get him to shut up.

Sam ran a hand through his hair, that Dean thought was too long, and shook his head. “It’s just…you were married. You loved her and before Lisa…Dean, I watched you bed half the female population of Lawrence and Kansas City.”

“He’s different.”

“Obviously.” Sam chuckled. “So, is it like, I mean, do you like guys now?”

He scrunched his face and pushed back the chair. “No.” The thought of men didn’t entice Dean, but the thought of Cas made his blood warm. “It’s not guys…it’s just…it’s just him. I know it’s weird.”

“No, man, look, whatever makes you happy. You’re my brother and I’m just glad to be seeing you smile again. Getting out.” He peeled back the label of his bottle. “Hey, when do I get to meet him?”

Dean stood. “No.”

“Oh come on!” Sam followed Dean with his body, turning in the chair. Dean stood over the sink rinsing out his beer bottle. “Jess and I would love to meet him, we’ll be good.”

Dean stewed for a second, the shot a glance back at his brother. “No jokes?”

“Of course not. Jesus Dean. You’re my brother and I love you.” Dean froze, clenching his jaw as Sam spoke. “It was hell after Lisa died, and I miss her too, but, she would want you to be happy. And if he’s making you happy, then Jess and me want to meet him.”

Dean dropped the bottle in the recycling and cleared his throat. “Okay. Okay we can go out Wednesday, I’ll see if I can get Andy.”

“We can bring Ben with us.”

His whole body moved with laughter and Dean pressed his hands to the counter top.

“You ever try to take a toddler to a grown-up restaurant? And try to eat at the same time? Trust me, it’s better to leave him at home.”

“Did he meat this guy yet?”

“Yeah.”

“And?”

“Jesus, Sam, and what? He’s two. Cas came over for dinner, Ben played with his trucks and then went to bed, what more do you want?”

Sam put up his hands in defense. “Calm down. Wednesday is fine.”

For anyone who missed it because I seem to be posting these chapters at really odd times of the day/night.

Tagged as: return to me, destiel,

This chapter is rated R.

For once, Dean didn’t wake up Ben when he came home. He paid Andy a little extra
for being a little late, and helped the boy down the stairs as he tried out his roller blades for the first time. After he locked the front door, ran up the stairs. He peeked on Ben, watching his son sleeping face-down in his bed, a stuffed animal tucked under his arm.

Dean touched his mouth as he slipped into his bedroom. He kissed a dude. He kissed Cas and liked it. Not some stupid drunk bet like in college that one time. But he’d been thinking about it, pictured it, wanted it. He hadn’t WANTED anything since Lisa.

It didn’t happen right away, he’s not quite sure when, but he could pinpoint the moments well enough. When they went out for drinks and pool and Dean did one of those trick shots that cleared almost the whole table and Cas wanted to see.
it didn’t happen right away, but the night he taught Cas to shoot this one angle and their hips touched and he felt a spark. Static electricity, bad carpets and his sneakers instead of boots. Then in the car when Dean picked him up for the fifth time, Cas leaned across the seat and brushed the crushed Cheerios from his hair.  And his stomach dipped and his mouth went dry.

His phone ringing jerked Dean out of his daze. He quickly dug through his pockets to answer; Ben slept so lightly. “Yeah?”

“You’re home?” Sam asked.

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You’ve been going out a lot. You meet somebody?”

Dean shrugged, pressed his fingers to his forehead. “Maybe.”

His younger brother chuckled and Dean pictured him in his little apartment, eating yogurt over the sink, Jess in the background with her reading glasses and crossword puzzle.

“When do I get to meet her?”

“It’s complicated,” he groaned and rolled onto his side, staring at Lisa’s pillow.
